Needlepoint Sanctuary was founded in 2018 by drug users as a response to the ongoing so-called opioid epidemic. Recognizing that current policies were failing and in many cases harming those impacted by the crisis, we took to the streets with a a peer-led model of syringe services intent on pursuing policy changes and serving the people where they were at.
Today we operate multiple syringe service programs throughout the state.
Our Vision
We believe that the benefits of syringe service programs are clear: reduced overdose deaths, reduced disease rates, and higher rates of access to treatment for drug users- whether it be recovery, housing, mental health, or the like. Harm reduction programs are a crucial lifeline able to connect with people in ways that other programs can’t.
We seek a world in which the meaning of the word sanctuary is realized: we do this through provision of services, for advocating with and on behalf of our participants, and by standing tall in support of the importance of syringe service programs, harm reduction, and peer led recovery.
