The Jessi Gilbert Harm Reduction & Recovery Community Center ( The “ Jessi/e Center”) opened in November of 2025. Named in honor of Jessi Gilbert, the center strives to embody the spirit of fierce determination, kindness, and love that Jessi brought to her work as a co-founder of Needlepoint Sanctuary of Maine and a tireless advocate on behalf of People Who Use Drugs.
Jessi was a person of remarkable resilience who moved within and between systems with dexterity and grace: she worked out of the back of cars, within trap houses, in emergency departments and in advocacy spaces fighting for the rights of People Who Use Drugs and providing harm reduction services. Jessi passed away on March 27 2022. Everyone that knew her misses her everyday.
1009 Ohio Street serves as a community hub for harm reduction & recovery services. Please visit our calendar to see specific events upcoming at the center.
